FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD
Frankie Goes to Hollywood completely dominated the British pop scene
in 1984. Holly Johnson, Paul Rutherford, Nasher Nash and Mark O'Toole
matched a record achieved in Liverpool decades earlier by having their
first three singles hit number one. 'Relax', 'Two Tribes' and 'Power
Of Love' was followed with 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' a cover version
of the Gerry Marsden classic. A band remembered for their controversy
and 'Frankie Says Relax' T-Shirts amazingly only released two albums
before they split in 1987. DISCOGRAPHY

THE LAS
The Las consisted of Lee Mavers, Paul Hemmings, John Timson and John
Power- who later went onto greater success with Cast. Despite huge
success with 'There She Goes' in 1988, the band had folded by 1990
due to the perfectionist Mavers. Their first album was released nearly
two years after it had been started such was Mavers' determination
that it should be perfect. It was much to late after the single for
it to have a major impact and subsequently only reached number 30
in the Album charts. DISCOGRAPHY

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS
Formed in 1979 by Mike Score, brother Ali and Frank Maudsley, the
band A Flock Of Seagulls used to rehearse above Mike's hair salon
in Whitechapel in the centre of Liverpool. It is not known how much
of this rehearsal time was given to styling the hair that probably
made them more famous than the music itself. Their success in America
was remarkable and they are best remembered for concerts in Madison
Square Garden and the JFK Stadium in front of 90,000 fans. Their biggest
hit in the UK was 'Wishing (If I Had A Photograph Of You). DISCOGRAPHY

HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT
Half Man Half Biscuit were formed in 1984 by Nigel Blackwell. His
imagination and outlook on life conveyed in his music attracted the
attention of John Peel who assisted in their rise to stardom. Their
debut album 'Back in the DHSS" was a typical honest outlook of
life on the dole, whilst their last single 'Dickie David Eyes' typified
their ability to mock TV clebrities. Reforming in 1993 and changes
in band members led to the excellent 1998 Album, 'Four Lads Who Shook
The Wirral'.

PETE WYLIE
Having already established himself on the Liverpool music scene with
earlier bands, it was no surprise that Pete Wylie would eventually
succeed in his own right. The Mighty Wah's 'Story Of The Blues' got
Wylie noticed in the early eighties. His 'Sinful' album and it's American
success enabled him to drop the Wah title and flourish alone. One
of his recent efforts, 'Heart As Big As Liverpool' is though to be
a tribute to Bill Shankly.

THE CHRISTIANS
Brothers Garry, Russell and Roger started out in the early 1980's
as a trio called 'Equal Temperament'. By the end of 1985 they had
renamed themselves 'The Christians.' In 1986 they signed to Island
records and immediately began work on their first album with producer
Laurie Latham. Their partnership with Latham proved highly successful
and they released their debut single, "Forgotten Town" in
Jan 1987. The release of two more singles ensured that the album went
triple platinum with U.K. sales alone exceeding 1,000,000 and on the
back of its success the Christians began to tour Europe. By 1988 they
had established themselves as a major new British soul act. DISCOGRAPHY
